The new wind power project will generate enough electricity for 23,000 homes and contribute to climate change goals.
Masdar, an Abu Dhabi clean energy company, is developing a 103.5 MW landmark wind power project at four locations.
The project includes a 45 MW wind farm on Sir Bani Yas Island, Delma Island (27 MW), Al Sila in Abu Dhabi (27 MW), Al Halah in Fujairah with 4.5 MW, a 14MWp (MW peak) solar farm on Sir Bani Yas Island and other wind sites that can generate electricity.
The UAE's wind power project is expected to displace 120,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide and power more than 23,000 homes annually. Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan inaugurated the UAE Wind Program on behalf of the UAE President at a ceremony held at Sir Bani Yas Island.
The project will introduce low-cost, large-scale and useful wind power to the UAE's electricity grid and further diversify the country's energy mix.
