The announcement is in accordance with the Cabinet ordered decision with respect to the approved official holidays for government and private sector.

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has announced that January 1, 2023, Sunday will be an official paid holiday in the UAE for all private sector employees.


The holiday is in accordance with the UAE Cabinet decision on approved official holidays for government and private sectors.


UAE residents will be able to get multiple long breaks in year 2023, including a six-day public-holiday.


According to the media post shared by the government, the following is the full list of holidays for next year (2023):

  • Gregorian New Year: January 1
  • Eid Al Fitr: Ramadan 29 to Shawwal 3
  • Arafah Day: Dhul Hijjah 9
  • Eid Al Adha: Dhul Hijjah 10-12
  • Hijri New Year: July 21
  • Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) birthday: September 29
  • UAE National Day: December 2-3

As most of you knew that the some of the holidays mentioned in the above list are based on the Hijri Islamic calendar. The corresponding Gregorian dates of the above days will depend on the moon-sighting and might change slightly.
