The Hafilat card is a rechargeable smart card that commuters can use to pay for bus transportation around Abu Dhabi. The Department of Municipality and Transport’s Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) recently announced new updates on how to recharge the Hafilat card online via e-services on the ITC or Darbi websites to make the process easier.
To find out how users can top-up their cards with credit through a simple online process, read below:
Step 1: Go to the Hafilat Online Services Website
Once you are on the Hafilat recharge website, you will find a window to login in the centre. On the right side, you will see buttons to register, recharge and pay fines. Note that you do not need to register unless, you want a personalised Hafilat account. Just click on the recharge button to top-up your Hafilat card.
Step 2: Enter details
It’s time to fill in some details. First, enter your card serial number, which you will find on the back of your Hafilat card. The system will have pre-filled the numbers 01. So, make sure the page displays a green check mark before proceeding.
In case, you face any issues, receive an error message or are unable to see the green check mark, manually re-enter your serial number (including the 01) and press OK again.

You should be able to see your current balance in the details option. Choose the recharge option and select the amount of credit you want from the drop-down menu. You can choose between amounts from Dhs10 to Dhs100 in multiples of five. Make your selection and proceed.
Step 4: Added to basket
You will get the “Product was added to your basket” message, and a button to view basket or make payment. The basket shows all that you have chosen to pay for. If you want to make the payment, you will need to check the box for terms of use, enter your email and click on the payment button. You will be redirected to the payment page.
If you want to add more balance, click on the other button to continue your purchase in the bottom left, and repeat the last step.
Step 5: Make payment
The payment page is like any standard payment page, and you will need to enter your card details and follow the steps you do to make online payments. Some cards need an additional verification step and users have to enter one-time passwords to confirm payment.
Step 6: Confirmation
Upon successful payment, you will receive your order number, a text message, and an email confirmation. Remember that it might take up to 48 hours for your credit to reflect in your card balance. If you want to travel on shorter notice, use one of the analogue kiosks to recharge your card.
The credit for Hafilat cards can also be bought at the many recharging stations and convenience stores around the city.
And if you’re looking for another unique and new way to top on your Hafilat card, you can now exchange plastic bottles for Hafilat credit as part of a new scheme launched by The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) in March 2022.
