Abu Dhabi: UAE Minister of Human Resources and Emiratization, Abdulrahman al-Awar, urged to private sector companies on Tuesday to adopt the new shorter work hours week which will be implemented by the public sector at the beginning of 2022, and modify the internal operations to ensure employees are guaranteed adjusted benefits.

The change in holidays announced in the UAE, the reform of working days and the call for the use of the same in private sector. The Minister of Human Resource & Emiratization has made such a proposal to private sector companies. The Minister said that working hours should be adjusted in a manner that is in line with the business interests and enhances the performance of the employees and helps their family life. Abdul Rahman Al Awar directed the companies.

Employers must give workers a break during Friday prayers. The Minister for Human Resources and Emiratisation also spoke about the private sector in response to the new decision to announce a two-and-a-half-day weekend break.

Private sector employees are entitled to one day off per week under the recently announced new labor law. But companies can extend the holidays if they wish. The minister said that the law does not require leave on any particular day and that a decision in this regard should be taken by the employer and the employees as per the employment contract.

He added that the change in the weekend holidays would help the country's private sector to carry out continuous foreign transactions. The announcement came on Tuesday that the weekend holidays in the UAE had been changed. While the announcement said the new change would only apply to federal government employees, government agencies in Dubai and Abu Dhabi have announced that they will be moving to the new system. The new weekend holidays will come into effect from January 1, 2022.

The country announced the public sector’s work week to 4.5 days from Mondays to Thursdays, with Friday working hours starting from 7:30 AM and ending at 12:00 PM.
