The Abu Dhabi Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Committee made the announcement of updated guidelines on Tuesday December 22, for anyone wishing for entry to the capital. The new regulations will be effective starting Thursday, December 24.

The new regulations would apply for all UAE citizens and residents, as well as Abu Dhabi residents coming back to the emirate. Please read the details below.

Covid test requirements for citizens or residents for entry to Abu Dhabi

Citizens and residents must complete a Covid test — either PCR or DPI testing will be accepted. They need to receive a negative result within 72 hours of entering Abu Dhabi instead of previous requirement of 48 hours.

If they required to continue staying for six or more consecutive days in the city, they must take a PCR test on sixth day from the date of entry.

How will the duration of stay be counted?

The day of arrival of the individual in Abu Dhabi will be counted as Day 1.

For example, if a person enter the Abu Dhabi on Sunday (Day 1), and live for six or more consecutive days, a PCR test must mandatorily be taken on Friday (Day 6).

Previously, visiting or returning citizens and residents were required to undergo tests on Day 4 and Day 8 after arriving and staying in the capital.
