The Khor Fakkan Heritage Area Project will change over the entire area into a tourism & cultural stop and add to the list of places in Sharjah to visit, and will offer tourage through the emirate's ancient history & heritage.
Sheikh Sultan monitored the new Al Wadi Water Canal and viewed the Shoosh races, traditional UAE marine sports, held along with the inauguration ceremony.
The Al Wadi canal is 700 metres long & five metres wide. It is one of the most prominently new tourist facility and provide for recreational activities to the visitors coming in the area with the opportunity to explore the area. The Al Wadi Water Canal is connected with the sea at Khor Fakkan beach.
The Ruler also inspected Al Rayaheen motel, which consists a group of old houses in the heritage area that will be restored, while preserving their ancient archaeological features. He was given a briefing on the future stages of opening the motel, the proposed designs, and the most important services that will be provided to guests, which included the temporary housing that shows the ancient heritage, as well as a group of cultural stores.
Sheikh Sultan then stopped at Bait Al Shabab, one of the old houses in the heritage area, dating back to the 1950s. He also toured the old market, which was then known and called as the Eastern Market and listened to an explanation about the stages that have been completed in the market.
